The inspiration for this project came from reading Freud's(2020) The Interpretation of Dreams. In the book Freud suggests that if a dream brings about negative emotions it can be revised twice, by displacing the disturbing images or thoughts to create a new dream, thus reducing the anxiety and unease caused by the dream. I had one of these dreams as a teenager, and it continued to repeat itself for a long time. In the dream I was in the dark, walking down a maze of stairs with an unknown object trailing behind me.
The first thing that came to mind when I was doing my research was to first draw each fragment of the dream and then make a collage. This is because collages are suggestive and associative. By disrupting the order and distorting the picture, it achieves the purpose of secondary correction. But later, after admiring some modernist works, I felt that perhaps works with a certain degree of interactivity would resonate more emotionally with the audience than flat paintings. So, I changed my plan and produced a dreamy picture book with music and exhibited it in the form of a video screen. Regarding the graphic presentation of the picture book, because the initial dream was black and red. The power of these two colours was too strong, in order to achieve a healing effect after the second revision. So I chose blue and pink. The quietness of blue and the gentleness of pink can bring a sense of inner peace.
